FUME SCRUBBER

The LEVTECH fume scrubber unit is used in the removal of acid fumes. It is commonly used in conjunction with the LEVTECH fumehood, although it can be used in other scrubbing functions as well. It consist essentially of layers of pads to separate and trap fume particals, to allow them to be scrubbed. The system shall be designed to meet minimum 98%, efficiency and pressure drop not exceeding 2 in. w.g by having >98% voidage.

The principle of operation is that the fumes shall initially be wet by the liquid spray as it passes through the lower pad at a predetermined velocity which depends upon the relative densities of the fumes and the liquid. The droplets laden gas impinges on the filament of the pad where the droplet coalesce and accumulated, eventually growing to such a size that they drain down and out of the pad against the direction of the gas flow and fall back into the liquid below. The top layer serves to eliminate any moisture vapour. The gas free of any suspended liquid particles passes out from the top of the pad.

STRUCTURE AND CONSTRUCTION

The rigid housing is moulded from corrosive resistant PP material. Viewports are provided for inspection, maintenance and repairs if necessary. The sump tank is constructed of the same material and the capacity suitable for recirculation. Neutralising solution, (alkali) can be added if required, but the liquid discharge shall not be toxic to the environment. The spray nozzles are full cone water jet spray 1/8 in. with flow rate of 1.1 l/min at 20 psi. A normally closed solenoid valve controls the incoming water supply.
